The best beaches in Djerba

Djerba's beaches are mostly on the east coast, along the tourist zone. Sidi Mahrez, in the north-east, stretches for several kilometres of fine sand in front of the hotels: it is the best known, ideal for walking and swimming. Further south, Aghir and La Seguia are quieter, with shallow water that families love. For a different day out, boats leave Houmt Souk for Ras R'mel, the flamingo peninsula, and its turquoise lagoon. The sea is at its most pleasant from June to October; in summer, come early in the morning or late in the day, and protect yourself from the sun. After the beach, the Midoun tourist zone is close by: Sultana serves kamounia, couscous and grilled fish until 23:30. See also Djerba with kids.
