Kamounia, meat stew with olives and chillies, in an earthenware dish

Kamounia

A Tunisian stew named after cumin, "kammoun" in Arabic.

Kamounia is a slow-cooked dish from Tunisian cooking: meat, sometimes liver, simmered for a long time in a sauce of cumin, garlic and tomato. It is an everyday family dish, eaten with bread to mop up the sauce.

At Restaurant Sultana, the meat is slow-cooked in a cumin and garlic sauce: it is one of the dishes we recommend to anyone discovering Tunisian food. It goes well with a brik or a salad to start. The list below shows whether it is served today, and at what price.
