To eat well in Djerba, start with the area. In Houmt Souk, around the harbour and the souks, you will mostly find fish restaurants and small eateries for a quick brik or sandwich at lunchtime. In Midoun, the town and the neighbouring tourist zone mix Tunisian and international cooking; that is where Restaurant Sultana sits, at the Coupole roundabout. On the plate, order what the island does best: an egg brik to start, then a kamounia, a couscous or a grilled fish, and always ask for the dish of the day, often the freshest. A menu displayed with its prices, and locals among the customers, are two good signs. Prices are in Tunisian dinars and stay reasonable outside the hotels.
